It’s a good week to be a geek
It’s a good week to be a geek

So tonight, I’m heading out to the Savoy 16 IMAX for the premiere of Iron Man 3. I’m so geeked for this movie, it’s ridiculous.

First, it’s the debut of the Savoy 16 IMAX theater. That alone is awesome. And c’mon. Iron Man 3? You know I’m going to dig it.

And if that weren’t enough (and most of the time, it would be), but this Saturday, May 4th, it’s Free Comic Book Day. What’s Free Comic Book Day you ask? It’s exactly what it sounds like. Free comics. You can stop by your local comic book shop. For me, that’s G-Mart Comics at 44 E Main St #103.  There’s a bunch of free comics for all ages.

When my kids were younger, we always looked forward to FCBD.  It was a way we could share in my nerdiness.  I would bring the kids to G-Mart, yes, even my daughter, and they would grab free comics.  It was great.  We were set for the afternoon, and we had something to talk about for weeks to come.  Anything that I could do to encourage them to read, I was down with.  Yes, even comic books.  Besides, comics rock.

There are so many cool comic books out there these days, it’s amazing.  And you can sample a bunch of them this Saturday.  You’ll find everything from Sponge Bob, Sesame Street and the Simpsons to Star Wars, Superman and the Avengers, and everything in between.  There’s horror, and westerns, and sci-fi, and fantasy, and steam punk, and manga and more.

So if you haven’t picked up a comic book in a while, this Saturday is a great excuse to rediscover something you really loved as a kid.  Or if you just want something cool and fun to do with your kids, check out Free Comic Book Day.

And to top it all off, this Saturday, May 4th, is Galactic Star Wars Day.  (May the Fourth be with you).  And yes, you can grab a free Star Wars comic this Saturday as well.
