This week’s beer was picked simply because I liked the label.  And for me, that may be the best part about this beer.  It’s Big Daddy IPA.  I’ll give it this, it’s pretty clear and drinks ok, but other than that, it wasn’t impressive.  There is a ton of bitterness from the hops and that’s about it.  I didn’t get any real underlying flavor to go with those hops.  Which is too bad.  Admittedly, I’m not the biggest fans of IPAs and this beer is one of the reasons why.  If you’re going to load me up with bitterness, you better back that up with some interesting flavor.

Even Matt, who is and IPA guy, wasn’t too impressed here.  He gave it a 6.0, while I give it an even 5.0.  It’s not undrinkable, but I personally probably wouldn’t drink it again.

This put Shane from Rosati’s into an interesting spot.  What do you pair this bitter beer up with and still come out looking and tasting good?  Hot wings.  The spicier the better.  And he’s right.  You need that flavor and spice to cut through all the bitter in this beer to really make anything happen.  Heck, I might like this beer more with a face full of hot wings.
