Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA

Rosatis

On Tap is brought to you by Rosati’s Pizza, 701 S. Gregory, Urbana.  328-2334.

This was a surprise in a big way.  I normally bring in the beer, but this time Shane from Rosati’s said he had it covered, and he brought in a doozy.  Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA.  This thing is legit.  It clocks in at around 18% ABV.  We’re not 100% sure on that because even the bottle says between 15% and 20% ABV, but that’s our guess.

But even with such a high ABV, it’s not super acoholy.  I mean, you can definitely tell you’re not drinking an American Pale Ale here, but it’s not jet fuel.  It’s warm going down without the burn.  But that’s just a part of this brew.  This beer has a ton of hops in it.  I mean a ton.  It’s boiled for two full hours while being hopped the entire time.  It’s then dry hopped for a month.  Big hops.  But with all those hops, it’s not near as bitter or have near the bitter after taste that I would anticipate.

It pours a nice murky golden color with very little carbonation or head.  The aroma hits you right away with some hops up front and a big dose of caramel/toffee, vanilla, alcohol, and some earthy tones.  The taste is very similar to the aroma, with sweet caramel/toffee, vanilla, some nutty qualities, alcohol, and a subtle hint of a fruit, like apricot or something rich like that.  The mouth feel is thick, warm, sweet and a bit sticky.

This is a solid, solid beer.  We all liked it.  Ryan and I both gave it an 8.5 while Shane dishes out his first ever 10.

Shane paired this up with the Rib Eye Sandwich from Rosati’s.  Right on the head.

Now, you’re going to have to drive to find it, but it’s well worth the trip.
