Rosatis

On Tap is brought to you by Rosati’s Pizza, 701 S. Gregory, Urbana.  217-328-2334.

It’s Round Two of the Irish Red Ales.  As we get you prepped and ready for St. Pat’s Day, we want you to think about drinking more than just green beer or even just Guiness.   (Not that there’s anything wrong with Guiness, we love Guiness, but there’s other cool Irish Beers out there as well.)

The Reds

Next up: Smithwick’s Premium Irish Ale.  This is a good example of an Irish Ale.  If you’ve never had one, this wouldn’t be a bad place to start.  This is a pretty well balanced beer.  It carries a bit of bitterness from the hops but has that malt goodness adding some sweet notes throughout.  There’s a bit of a roasty, coffee vibe here as well.  All in all, a good beer.  Ryan and I both gave it a 6 while Shane gave it a 5.5

Our final Irish Red is Murphy’s Premium Red Ale.  I had heard a lot of good things about this particular beer, and I have to say it lived up to it’s hype.  This is a really good beer.  This has a full flavor going on.  It’s sweet from the malts, a bit spicey from the hops without being bitter, there’s a caramel essence in there as well.  It’s got a pretty clean finish.  We all dig it.  Ryan and I give this one an 8, while Shane ups the game to a 9.  If you’re only going to have one Irish beer this St. Patty’s Day (that’s not Guiness) we highly recomend Murphy’s Premium Red Ale.

Next up:  We start mixing Guiness with other beers because St. Pats.
