On Tap is brought to you by Rosati’s Pizza, 701 S. Gregory, Urbana.
So. This is one of the more interesting beers we’ve tried. Shane is the one that brought it to our attention, Ryan found it, and I obtained some. It’s Mamma Mia Pizza Beer. Going in to this we were intrigued, and I thought, “Well, pizza and beer is a great combo, Pizza Beer should be awesome.”
To set the stage, this beer is brewed with tomato, garlic, basil and oregano. So it’s really a pizza beer. Kudos to Tom Seefurth, the chef behind this creation for making a truly unique beer. That being said, it didn’t sit well with any of us. The first hit for me was ok. A bit on the tomato side, but from then on I was bombarded with garlic. It left a bit of a greasey film in my mouth and, I don’t know. It’s just odd. Now, I’m not saying you shouldn’t try it, you should. You might love this combo. Besides, it’s super unique and at the very least, you’ll have a good story.
Shane really wasn’t into this one at all. DJ Squish went in with a grea attittude, but just couldn’t get her mind, or her stomach and taste buds, around this one. Ryan too just couldn’t get into it.
My Rating: 4.0
DJ Squish: 2.5
Now, that all being said, we came to the conclusion that if you were going to try this, you really need some Rosati’s bread sticks to go with it and a side of wings. The bread sticks help to absorb some of that bold flavor, and the the wings offer a really good taste.
So there you go. Feel free to seek this one out at their website, be bold, be daring, drink some Pizza Beer!
