Dark Horse Brewing is up this week with Sapient Trip Ale.  This is a Belgian Style Trippel.  Now I’ll be honest.  I don’t know much about Trippels.  But from what I understand they should pour golden, have some smooth maltiness and a very yeasty vibe.  That being said, Sapient Trip Ale pours out nice a gold, very cloudy and has a good nose on it.  (Lots of aroma.)  This thing starts off nice and bready, almost smoky with a hint of spice and even banana.  The mouth feel is a bit carbonated and full but I liked it. And then it hits you on the back with a hoppy bitterness that some will love.

All in all, I think this is a decent beer.  It’s not really up my alley, but it’s flavorful and carries a 9.5% ABV so it’s go that goin’ for it.  I gave this one a 6.5 and Ryan gave it a 6.0.

This beer would go really well with a Calzone from Rosati’s.  Stuff that thing with sausage, cheese, and a little hot giardiniera and you’re good to go.
