Winter Beer Extravaganza: Part 1
Winter Beer Extravaganza: Part 1

Rosatis

On Tap is brought to you by Rosati’s Pizza, 701 S. Gregory, Urbana.  328-2334.

We kick things off with two very different beers.  Bad Elf and Lump of Coal Dark Holiday Stout.  I should say up front, there is a series of “Elf” beers.  We’ll be taste driving one each round.

Bad Elf gets things started with a hops punch to the face.  This thing packs a pretty decent hops whallup with almost three pounds of hops in each batch.  While hops aren’t my thing, this is a pretty well balanced beer.  Not spiced for the holiday, which I like.  Our resident hop head, Shane, gave Bad Elf a 7.  Ryan and I gave it a 6.  I for the well balanced nature and not succumbing to the tendency to load up any holiday brew with spices, and Ryan for the over abundance of hops.

Now, Lump of Coal was a different beast all together.  This is a very smoky stout.  Very smoky.  It’s after taste stays for a while.  It’s got a thick, burny flavor that wasn’t quite up my alley.  However, I think you should give this a go at least once.  Ryan gave it a 4 just because it’s weird, and Shane and I gave it a 6 each.  It kind of grew on me as I drank it.  Weird, yes.  Different, yes.  Good…you tell us.
